CUSTOM GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE TRIPS

In addition to our people-to- people exchanges, Custom Cuba Travel specializes in building customized academic study abroad trips for colleges and universities across the United States. Our unique relationship with universities and research centers in Havana and elsewhere, allow us to build custom study abroad trips for academic credit.

How does it work?

The process is simple. If you have an academic idea or interest, we work directly with faculty and administrators at your college or university to tailor short or long terms study abroad trips based on the academic needs of your institution.

We work with you to develop a rigorous full-time academic itinerary in Cuba and then connect with faculty, administrators and professionals at various research and university centers in and around Havana to build the custom academic trip you want for your

students.

What does a “typical” academic trip look like?

While one of the benefits about working with us is that you get to be a part of building the academic course, we can arrange trips that are what we call “academic all-inclusives.” This means we handle visas, lodging, flights, meals and health insurance and then work with you, the subject matter expert, to build a course that fits the academic needs of your students.

This could mean a stand-alone a week long course on street photography, or a 10-day immersive experience that fits into a political science, health care or ecology course you are already teaching. As part of each academic trip, we bring in faculty from the University of Havana and professionals who work in the field of study you are interested. All of these partners help build a rich an immersive experience by sharing and discussing their expertise and backgrounds with your students or colleagues.

In addition, because of the academic visas we are able to obtain in Cuba, we offer the unique

opportunity to engage directly with Cuban students and incorporate daily excursions to connect directly with Cubans working in the field of your choice. For example, if you were interested in a course focused on Cuban law and health care policy? We can work with you to build a study abroad component that fits into a course you already teach and make sure that the Cuba component includes comparative seminars and lectures from leading Cuban academics, excursions to Cuban courts or NGO law firms to talk with legal professionals, trips to local clinics and hospitals to see how health care functions in Cuba and receptions with Cuban graduate and undergraduate students.

All of these experiences can be tailored and scheduled to fit your needs and because of our unique partnerships in Cuba, we can offer academic credits!

While we are happy to work with you to create a study abroad experience that fits your needs, below are a few examples of courses we’ve built in the past and can recreat for you in the future!
